Chili's seaside and other restaurants closing down after 20 Years
Starting today there will be 25% off your meal at Chili's until the 30th due to the closing of this restaurant which is the first location in Kuwait 20 years ago. This was one of the first restaurants I visited back in 2003 when there were very few places to choose from. Every weekend we would drive from Fintas to Salmiya to have dinner. So many memories at this location and I'm sad to see it go.
It's not the only restaurant to close, starting from Chili's all the way down to Johnny Carino's which consists of Appleebees, Le Notre, Burj Al Hamam, the Indian restaurant and Johnny Carino's will be taken over by Al Shaya. Le Notre is said to become a Starbucks and the Chili's will become a possible Pinkberry. The 20 year lease for these establishments is up and guess who won the bid.....drum roll.....Al Shaya of course.
For the people who have been here a long time say goodbye to the original restaurants and hello to modern times. Unfortunately this is the fate of Kuwait, not only original locations but most of the old houses and local history have been erased due to the race for modern structures. All though all of these things have been removed and new buildings, malls and restaurants have been built I don't see any tourism!

Kuwait floods 2018
The floods of November 2018 will go down in history for sure. Two people died and numerous cars and houses were destroyed. Kuwait is a complete mess now and will those people who lost so much actually get any compensation? Now the roads are dry in some areas but there is no actual road any more. It's just loose gravel and sand now.
Here are some pictures of Fahaheel after the storm.
This is the entrance to Highway 30 which is closed so they can drain and clean the infamous Mangaf underpass that floods every year.

Avenues flooded from the storm last week:
The owner of my apartment was caught in the floods, he told me the Kuwaiti police wouldn't help him but some Indian guys did. They helped him move his car and gave him a change of clothes. The car is in the shop and will cost 500 KD to fix. The elevator in the house was flooded, I opened my bedroom door and stepped into the water pouring out of the top of the elevator. The tent on the room was lifted and slammed into the a/c units on the roof. I wonder if he should submit a damage claim to the Ministry. There's still more rain to come......
