Dog taken to Jail- Only in Kuwait

KUWAIT CITY, April 1: A Kuwaiti woman was summoned to Salmiya Police Station for investigations after her dog attacked an American expatriate in Salmiya area, reports Al-Rai daily.

According to security sources, the American expatriate residing in Salmiya area lodged a complaint at Salmiya Police Station, stating that a dog that belongs to a Kuwaiti woman had attacked him and he had to seek treatment in a hospital. He provided securitymen with a medical report to indicate the injury he sustained.

During investigations, the Kuwaiti woman said her dog was probably under the impression that the American wanted to attack her and was trying to defend her. The concerned authorities decided to refer the dog to the zoo. However, since the zoo was already closed, the securitymen detained the dog at the police station.

------So...the dog went to jail because the zoo was closed? I swear you can't make this stuff up.

  1. See - again the problem of how to enforce laws. I have friends with K9-related services in Kuwait who have been called out by the police to evaluate dogs at police stations for aggression. There are laws saying you can't walk your dogs in certain areas of Kuwait, but what happens when there is a question about what happened (like this case)? Where do you take the dog (there are no government kennels)? Who evaluates the dogs? How do you fine irresponsible owners? People are randomly creating laws without giving any thought to the follow-through process. What if the woman in this case hadn't vaccinated her dog against rabies? The guy has to go through painful rabies treatments. It would take years to sue her.

And - this is horrible to say - but I've heard some trainers' outrage that people bring them their dogs strictly to be trained to "bite people." Ethical trainers would never agree to it, but just the thought that people now want to use dogs as weapons is ridiculous.

The woman in this case is also ridiculous. If you own a dog, you need to be able to control him. the dog should have been wearing a muzzle if she couldn't control him. No excuse!
