Life in Qatar

It has grown since I visited many years ago but the one thing I notice even back then was how clean the country was and I love the Villagio Mall which had just opened when I was there.

  1. I'm in Kuwait but Qatar looks tempting but I've heard there aren't enough schools for expats and the ones there are more expensive than Kuwait but I love their compound living.

  2. A friend of mine is married to a Saudi, the son of a well known terrorist (sounds odd, I know) and they live in Qatar. They live a comfortable life with all the material items one would expect, yet no one there is 'flashy' or show-off's. It was the same in the UAE. Verrrrry clean, everyone lived a comfortable life, laws were enforced, and people seemed happier.

And though I love Kuwait dearly, there's that air of new money/minimal class.

  3. I agree, I know Qatar is new to their money so they still hold their old values and you don't see a lot of hoochie mamas everywhere but the expensive schools are my problem and trying to find a job there.

  4. Have you considered Abu Dhabi? It's far less crowded than Dubai yet still so much to do (especially for families). Very clean, safe, reasonably priced, and I hear the schools are fabulous. And the salary in Abu Dhabi is always a bit more than Dubai since it's not as 'trendy' as Dubai. I personally preferred Abu Dhabi over Dubai.

  6. Housing here in Qatar is extremely expensive - a two bedroom apartment is KD770 unless you want to live in the Qatar equivalent of Hawalli, and that is only if you can find housing, schooling is extremely expensive with extremely limited spaces, eating out is expensive and a lot less choice than Kuwait. Kuwait shopping and choices are a million times better. Only bonus is i can have an expensive glass of wine with my dinner. Qatar is starting to get a lot more new expats and its starting to get the arrogant Dubai vibe about it

  7. Really? I had read an article about expats leaving because there weren't enough schools for their kids, I researched the schools and was shocked at the prices. I do want to visit, Souq Waqif looks really nice. Abu Dhabi, I've never considered but I do want to visit the Ferrari world one day, I want to live somewhere that is still culturally linked when I went to Dubai I found only a few Emirate citizens, I like culture of course, if I wanted a Western setting I would go back home.
