KUWAIT CITY, July 7:
The Ministry of Interior has advised the people to strictly comply with law number 44/1968 that prohibits eating, drinking and smoking in public during Ramadan. In a press statement Sunday, acting Director of the Public Relations and Moral Guidance Department and Director of the Security Media Department Colonel Adel Ahmad Al-Hashash disclosed the penalties include fine of not more than KD 100 and imprisonment of not more than a month or both for those proven to have violated the law. He said the law also stipulates punishment for those who will encourage people to break the rule, such as the closure of the establishment used for this purpose for not more than two months. He added the interior minister has the right to issue a ministerial decision to shut down establishments under such circumstances and the necessary legal action will be taken against the owners. Al-Hashash went on to say the law was enacted to protect the people from anything that might hurt their feelings while fasting. He added the ministry also congratulates the entire nation on the occasion of the holy month.
