Group of Americans sue, seek dues as per Kuwaiti Laws

Group of Americans sue, seek dues as per Kuwaiti laws:

‘Violation of global rules’

KUWAIT CITY, March 21: The Court of First Instance has referred a case filed by a group of Americans employed in some companies associated with the US Army in Kuwait to the Experts Administration for the calculation of their dues.
Case files indicate the plaintiffs have been deprived of some employment privileges stipulated in Kuwait’s Labor Law because the companies are implementing the American law, which is against the international agreements on the application of Kuwaiti laws.
Attorney Mussa’ed Jamal Al-Riyahi, who represented the American employees in court, argued his clients should receive privileges as per the Kuwaiti law.

Sounds like another ITT problemo. ITT has to answer to the stateside lawsuit already. Although I've heard KBR ex-employees have also filed a claim to get their money. SWEET! Can I add my name to the list?

  2. It is ITT and I am one of the ones suing ITT. The issues we are perusing apply to all ITT employees and employees of their sub-contractors. Here are to links that will help you. Google "2010 Kuwait labor law" & "2010 Kuwait contracting officer guide" good info that may surprise you.

  3. My husband also has a lawsuit against KBR and their practices. He's a Kuwaiti so rules are a little different for him. If you need anything legal or other just let me know via email kuwait411@yahoo. I'm still working in ITT and I know people are still signing Arabic letters which state KRH owes them nothing. The employees don't know that's what they're signing. Keep me posted! Thanks.

  4. ITT Exelis is the new name of thsi game with the same old bad practices. Employees who leave the company are all getting cheated 2 ways. All expats work according to Kuwaiti Law 48 Hour Work Week and their end of year bonus is only given at 40 hours when the contract states 2 weeks paid however they add in parenthesis (80) the number 80 and are cheating employees who re-contract or leave the company.
Also the US State Department has declared Kuwait a Hazardous duty Area just like Iraq and pay ITT for ecah employee an uplift upto 70% added pay, however ITT Exelis is not paying employees this uplift and pocketing the money. Bad Business Corporation......

  5. I've been offered a position with ITT in Kuwait. It is a 60 hour work week as 12 hours a day / 5 days a week. There is a 10% "uplift" but nothing close to the 70% mentioned. I was told that only applied to Iraq and Afghanistan.

If you have worked for ITT or currently work for ITT; if you can share your recommendations and experience; I would greatly appreciate it.

    Thanks !!

  6. WOW! I work in Kuwait. I work 72 hrs a week. I get paid NO overtime. I only get 6 sick days a year. I only get three weeks off a year. I get no uplift. I get no pay for working holidays, or holidays off. I have complained to the COR, OSI, CID, FBI. WTF?!?! Our sponsor is KRH, and they had us sign a letting in ARABIC that we have no explanation of what it says. HMMMM...
I wonder if they will cheat us out of this indimnity I hear about as well. Any Kuwaiti Lawyers on this site?

  9. 2010 offcial Labor law states 13 paid holidays. which means the normal holiday pay plus 1 days pay for working. If you work in excess of 8 hours on that day you get OT which is pay X 1.25. For 5 years or less service you get 30 days (8 X 30 =240hrs)vacation. Vacation is accrued but can only be taken after 9 mos service. Labor does not provide for hazard or differential uplifts. You must be paid for all hours worked.

  13. My Attorney Mussa’ed Jamal Al-Riyahi informed me that the Kuwait court decided against ITT this wee. This is the first time an American company has had a decision against it for labor law violations in Kuwait.

  14. Oh really? So what exactly does that mean? I sure wish they would give us the money owed from 2003-2010 before they implamented the Kuwaiti law which means we are owed indemnity, Kuwait holidays and over time. I think Kuwait is tired of hearing about ITT so maybe they will finally hold them accountable?
